Elementary STEM League

Introducing the Elementary STEM League for fall 2021. Children aged 5 to 10 take part in a variety of STEM lessons and challenges using our proven learning through play pedagogy, robotics kits, engineering kits, tablets and more. 2.5hr weekly “practices” will engage students in all the STEM subjects, plus the STEM skills of collaboration, communication, scientific method, peer learning, and critical thinking at age appropriate levels.

The Elementary STEM League is a way for your child to learn essential 21st century skills while covering necessary curriculum to be successful in school. The program is fun, engaging and challenging. Our team is excellent at teaching STEM subjects at the elementary level with our learning through play methods. Most importantly, we’ll help your child learn to learn, and by the end of the program, they’ll love to learn!

We have 2 divisions (ages 5-7 and 8-10), each consisting of up to 6 teams. Teams will consist of 3 children each. You are welcome to register as a team, or individually for placement on a team. Teams will be provided with all the necessary equipment, supplies and uniform for the duration of the season.

Practices start the week of September 20th and run until the week of December 5th. The final challenge will take place on Saturday December 11th -10am to 3pm, and Sunday December 12th 10am to 1pm, followed by an all-team Expo from 1pm to 2pm. Weekly practices are 2.5hrs with your team’s choice of either Tuesdays from 4pm to 6.30pm or Saturdays from 9.30am to Noon.

Practices run weekly for 2.5hrs at our Brick Labs campus (41 Scarsdale Rd, Unit 12). Teams will practice once per week either on Tuesday’s from 4 to 6.30pm or Saturdays from 9.30am to Noon. Parents will be provided with a choice during registration. Each session will consist of mini-lessons from our STEM curriculum, and then experiential challenges to help them apply the lessons for deeper learning. Teams will be coached and mentored by members of the Brick Labs’ team. Practices will start Saturday September 18th or Tuesday September 21st and run until December 5th (11 weeks).

The final challenge will be held the weekend of December 11th and 12th at Brick Labs. At 10am on Saturday students will be presented a real-world problem to solve as a team. Over the next two days, they will apply all their learning to creatively solve the problem and prepare to demonstrate their solutions to family and friends at 1pm on Sunday. Hours for that weekend are Saturday from 10am to 3pm, and Sunday 10am to approximately 2pm.

Registration is now open. Each child should register individually. If you have created your own team of 3, or group of 2, there will be a place to indicate it in the process. All-inclusive fee is $600 plus HST per child. Proof of age may be requested at a later date.

All Covid safety protocols will be in place as recommended by public health authorities. In the event of government ordered shut downs, schedule changes/extensions may be required to ensure all teams receive eleven 2.5hr practice sessions and the final challenge weekend.
