2024-2025 SUBMERGED
Use creative thinking and LEGO® technology to explore the layers of the ocean and bring learnings and ideas to the surface in a new robotics challenge launching in September at Brick Labs.
EXPLORING THE FUTURE
Children have a natural curiosity, creativity, and desire to explore. With the power of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) FIRST and Brick Labs looks to inspire your child’s innovative spirit and boost their confidence for future success.
Project-based, hands-on robotics programs introduce students to engineering and coding in an engaging, inclusive, and creative learning environment. The Brick Labs FLL team will work collaboratively to solve a themed robotics challenge over the course of the season.
Our FLL – Robotics Team (“The VIB Coders”) is designed for mature LEGO-lovers (aged 8 to 12) with experience in coding for robotics, to engage in a season-long project that will develop a number of skills while participating in a competitive environment.
The robotics team will gather weekly (Thurs or Sat) to research, innovate, build, code and get competition ready. The team will be coached and mentored in a variety of STEM and team skills. Through the year, they will be provided specific tasks and deadlines and are expected to work collaboratively to achieve the overall goal.
SCHEDULE
Members are free to choose to participate on either Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm or on Saturdays from 1130am to 130pm. They are able to switch between the days if their personal schedule requires it. In addition, there will be a need for the team to gather as a whole on specific days for pre-tournament practices and for competitions. A complete schedule will be issued when available.
The first practice will be September 12th (Thurs) or September 14th (Sat). Our last session will be in early June, along with a demonstration for family and friends.
PROJECT OUTLINE
Project details will be released by First LEGO League in early August. We should have our update listed shortly thereafter.
APPLICATION PROCESS
We are looking for 12-14 robotics team members to be part of this exciting project. Interested applicants should start the application process by clicking the apply now button. Once the initial application has been completed, we may reach out for additional information. Final selection and announcement of team members will take place in early September.
We will be using the LEGO Spike Prime Robotics kit and other LEGO elements for the project. Team members will be applying many math, science and research skills in their project and for the competition. Creativity will be essential in ensuring our team demonstrates their innovative and practical ideas to the judges and the public.
Fees
The annual fee for team membership is $1500 (includes hst). This amount is billed monthly from September to June ($169.50). There are no additional fees unless the team moves beyond the local competition level and team travel is required.
We will be seeking sponsorship for the team, and any funds raised will go to offset membership fees.
Team members are welcome to attend on their selected practice day or both. They are also able to attend PA Day camps at no charge. Team members will receive a variety of team apparel throughout the year. Team members may also be given priority for Leader in Training camp invitations.
